Team Performance of the Year

Football at WV State: Carson-Newman  scored the first three times it touched the football and never looked back in roaring to a 56-25 win over West Virginia State at Lakin-Ray Field. Carson-Newman gobbled up 457 yards of offense, including 341 yards on the ground.  Carson-Newman could not have asked for a better first quarter.  Both the Eagles and Yellowjackets touched the ball three times.  C-N scored three TDs, WVSU went three-and-out three times.

Football at Tusculum:  Jayden Sullins rushed for 164 yards and two scores while the defense forced three turnovers and scored two touchdowns of their own as No. 21/22 Carson-Newman crushed Tusculum, 56-14, at Pioneer Field to secure a South Atlantic Conference Mountain Division Championship.

Men's Basketball v. Fort Lewis: Carson-Newman's  four preseason all-conference players were tremendous in a 94-75 rout of #22 Fort Lewis on the final day of the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic. Nick BreneganJack BrowderTrey Hubbard and John Zhao combined to score 86 of Carson-Newman's 94 points in what is C-N's largest margin of victory under head coach Chuck Benson against a ranked opponent. The ranked win also serves as Carson-Newman's first ranked win in regular season non-conference play under Benson. The Eagles scorched the nets shooting an impressive 61% from the field and made 52% of their three-pointers compared to #22 Fort Lewis' 41% shooting mark and 25% shooting from beyond the arc.

Men's Soccer v. Newberry: Carson-Newman  erupted for its most goals in a game in 17 years, annihilating Newberry  8-0. Obviously, Carson-Newman's eight goal night was a new season-high. It's the most goals the program has scored under Stephen Lyons in game, surpassing the seven his 2019 team scored versus North Greenville. The eight goals are the most in a game since scoring 9 goals versus Cumberland (TN) in 2007. The scoring effort was the sixth-most in a single-game in program history. Carson-Newman scored its eight goals in ridiculous efficiency, taking 22 shots, 14 of which hit the target. It's the most shots and shots on goal in a game this season. Ben Dukes led the way offensively with his three goals, while six different others scored in the eight-goal win. Thomas Lachapelle and Antoine Torrent scored their third career goals, while three others recorded their firsts. The Eagles assisted on seven of the eight goals and totaled nine in the match. The nine assists are the second-most in a single-game in school history. Torrent led that charge with two assists himself, with seven others helping in a plethora of scoring. In total, Carson-Newman's eight goals and nine assists totaled 25 points, the third-most in a single-game in school history. Only 40 and 28-point efforts versus Anderson in 2000 and North Greenville in 2004 beat out the effort.

Volleyball v. Lenoir-Rhyne:  Carson-Newman shocked the conference and broke out the brooms against [RV] Lenoir-Rhyne inside Holt Fieldhouse. Carson-Newman  won its sixth straight home match to open the season, sweeping Lenoir-Rhyne in the latest edition. Before Friday evening's match, the Bears had only lost one match, but Carson-Newman was able to protect its home floor en route to an upset that left L-R's bench and traveling fans stunned. Carson-Newman wailed away, hitting .288 while holding the Bears to a .164 attack percentage.

Volleyball at Mars Hill: Carson-Newman started its road trip off right, breaking out the brooms for the third straight match in a win over Mars Hill.  The Eagles were led by freshman Emerson Ahsmuhs, the only player on either side to surpass ten kills on the night. Ahsmuhs tallied 11. Sophomore setter Blair Cherry  collected her eighth double-double with 33 assists and 11 digs.

Women's Soccer v. Union: Carson-Newman got a balanced attack, with four different players scoring in a 4-1 win against a NCAA Tournament squad in Union. The win marked the third straight season that the Eagles have won their home opener. In all three wins, Carson-Newman has scored at least four goals. Karli Pettitt, Krista Nielsen, in Anita Arnadottir and Annika Fend each scored a goal in Carson-Newman's best scoring effort of the season.

Women's Basketball @ Lander: Carson-Newman scored the first six points of the game and never looked back, running away from Lander securing a 90-64 season-opening win. The Lady Eagles feasted off Lander turnovers, scoring 29 points off 30 Bearcat turnovers. It's the most turnovers that C-N has forced in a game since December 18, 2019, when it forced 30 versus Mars Hill. The road win for Carson-Newman snapped Lander's 12 game winning streak in home openers. The Bearcats entered the game having won 16 of their past 17 home openers. It was a wire-to-wire win, as C-N opened up a 26-8 advantage after one quarter. In a foul-plagued Lady Eagle debut, Jennifer Sullivan scored a team-high 20 points and made six of her 12 shots despite only playing 15 minutes. She made a team-high eight free throws as well. Three other Lady Eagles finished in double digits. Campbell Penland scored 18 points, ten of which came in the third quarter and she made three of C-N's four three-pointers. Lindsey Taylor and Tori Rutherford were the two other double-digit scorers.
