SALEM, Va. - Day one of the two-day Finn Pincus Invitational from Roanoke College concluded on Friday night for Carson-Newman Track & Field as they competed for just the third time so far during the indoor season.

Jahvad McDermott took home the victory in the high jump as he cleared 2.04 meters on his third attempt. All three of his jumps at 2.11 meters fell short which would have etched him into the lineup for a trip to the NCAA Indoor Championships. His current career-best in the event sits at 2.06 meters.

Christian Stumpf turned in a fifth-place tie in the event at 1.89 meters.

"Felt really good overall today," Coach Tyler Stepp said." Christian didn't have the day he wanted to have but he's expected to do a lot for us tomorrow. We really haven't practiced a lot with Jahvad on the high jump and have been focusing more on the triple jump so for him to be as close as he was to going to nationals tonight, I feel really encouraged there."

Freshman Tiffany Noe led all C-N jumpers in the high jump as she came through with a sixth-place finish at 1.54 meters marking a new best as an Eagle. The height tied with four other student athletes including three from South Atlantic Conference foe Lenoir-Rhyne.

Stephanie Johnson returned to action after being hampered by injuries and grabbed a tie for 12th clearing 1.44 meters.

The Eagles lone pole vaulter in Amy Zadroga took home third-place in the event after clearing 3.25 meters on her first attempt before missing out on all three at 3.40. Savannah Drummonds of L-R and Lindsey Baxter of Roanoke finished first and second respectively at the 3.40m height.

"The girls were also outstanding for us," Coach Stepp said. "Tiffany is right there to grabbing a new lifetime best in the high jump and I feel it won't be long before she does. To see Stephanie also bounce back after dealing with some concussion issues was exciting to see as well."

Josh Finchum competed in the pole vault for the men's side with a 10th-place height of 3.60m.

Events pick back up Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. starting with the women's long jump.
