Eagles outdoor campaign opens in Hickory this weekend

Meet Schedule

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - With the indoor season coming to a close last weekend, Carson-Newman Track & Field wastes no time as it opens up the outdoor season this weekend with a trip to Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory, N.C. for the Southside Power & Fitness Invitational on March 15-16 from the Irwin Belk Track at The Moretz Sports Athletic Complex.

David Needs' program wrapped up the 2018-19 indoor campaign with a third-place finish on the men's side and sixth for the women's. The Eagles ended the year with two second-team All-Americans in Luke Greer and Jahvad McDermott along with first-team All-American Devon Moore.

"There's a lot of excitement heading into the season," Needs said. "You have those few who are a little tired but you have additional events in outdoor season that creates a lot of excitement for some of our kids. There are some that made some additional strides at the end of indoor season that you look forward to making some steps.

"It's good for us to go to Lenoir-Rhyne to get our feet wet plus its where the conference meet will be at this year. There's some sort of reset when you coach in analyzing our student-athletes just because the weather and other elements are involved."

The Soccer Field got a total makeover in 2008 and was surrounded by the Irwin Belk Track that includes a state-of-the-art mondo surface and lights.
