JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman football's TraShaun Ward (Miami, Fla.) and women's cross country's Priscah Jemeli (Eldorett, Keyna) have been named the Carson-Newman Chick-Fil-A Male and Female Athletes of the Week.
TraShaun Ward accounted for 189 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns in the Eagles' 41-38 overtime win at Wingate Saturday.
Ward returned four kicks for 120 yards and caught four passes for 69 yards. His 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown was the first of his career.
The senior is Division II's active leader for kickoff returns (108) and kickoff return yardage (2405); however, in spite of returning six career kicks at least 50 yards, he had never brought one back to the house.
Ward is already Carson-Newman's all-time leader in kickoff return yardage and kickoff returns,
Priscah Jemeli once again led Carson-Newman's women's cross country team at the South Atlantic Conference Championships.
Another strong showing from Jemeli paced a women's club that jumped five spots in the results from a year ago as the Eagles finished fourth.
The freshman completed the five-kilometer course with a time of 19:14.3 and finished ninth overall in the individual standings that featured 90 runners.
Following the meet, the league office named Jemeli to the second team All-South Atlantic Conference cross country team. Jemeli was also placed on the All-Freshman team following her top-ten finish.
