JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman assistant football coach Tony Ierulli has been presented with the 35-year membership award from the American Football Coaches Association.  

Ierulli is in his fifth season working with Carson-Newman.

Ierulli has more than 35 years of college coaching experience.  In January of 2003, he was introduced as the 27th head coach in nearby Maryville College's 118-year history.  

A year before that, Ierulli was named the Division II Assistant Coach of the Year while at Shippensburg University.

Ierulli ranked third all-time in wins at Maryville with 39, and was the assistant athletic director at his alma mater for nine years. In addition to his coaching duties, Ierulli served on the NCAA Football Rules Committee from 2008-11.

Throughout his career, Ierulli and his wife Carol have established a mentoring and tutoring program at local elementary schools.  These started while Ierulli was an assistant at Missouri. The Ierullis believe football players should be used as role models for children in the community. 

The Ierullis have three children, A.J., Katie and Kelli, as well as two granddaughters, Ruby and Adley and two grandsons, Vincent and Anthony.
