Game

Women's soccer v. Wingate (regular season):  Junior Julianne Herrity's (Donegal, Ireland) 86th-minute goal off of a corner kick from freshman Varin Ness (Sogndal, Norway) propelled the Eagles to a 1-0 win over ninth-ranked Wingate and snapped the Bulldogs' 11-game win streak on Oct. 17th on Homecoming at McCown Field. Freshman goalkeeper Jessica Fraiture (Hebron, Ky.) tallied five saves and her recorded her third clean sheet on the year. Carson-Newman knocked off its first top-10 team beating then No. 4 Catawba on November 6th, 2009 2-1 in the SAC Tournament. The Eagles beat two ranked foes for the first time in a season since 2009 when C-N beat the Indians and Lynn after knocking off Lenoir-Rhyne earlier in the year. The win served as a catalyst for the Eagles to go on to win their the SAC regular season championship.

Football v. Valdosta: No. 22 Carson-Newman was eliminated from the 2015 NCAA playoffs at the buzzer.  Valdosta State scored 34 fourth quarter points to rally from an 18-point deficit and sent C-N packing on a Greg Dent 28-yard TD catch as time expired. The loss puts a damper on one of the best offensive performances in Carson-Newman football history.  De'Andre Thomas (Milledgeville, Ga.) finished his C-N career by becoming the first Eagle to ever throw for 400 yards in a game. Thomas finished 20-for-27 with 416 yards passing, besting Danny Sanders' previous mark of 380 yards set in 1978 against Lenoir-Rhyne.  However, it wasn't just Thomas who was sensational offensively.  Wide receiver TraShaun Ward (Miami, Fla.) snagged eight passes for 214 yards and two scores.  The 214-yard day is the third best single-game receiving total by an Eagle and the first time a wideout has caught 200 yards worth of passes by a Sparks-coached team.  The 120 combined points sets a new school record for most combined points in a Carson-Newman football game.  The teams also tallied a whopping 1,368 yards of total offense.  That figure tops the Carson-Newman record book and comes within spitting distance of the NCAA record of 1,531 yards set by Abilene Christian (810) and West Texas A&M (721) in 2008.

Football v Wingate:  In a game that featured five ties and a trio of lead changes, Carson-Newman came out on top with an 18-yard field goal fromCarson Wise (Blacksburg, Va.) in overtime to produce a 41-38 win over no. 21 Wingate. The win gave Carson-Newman head football coach Ken Sparks his 200th career South Atlantic Conference victory.  The 41 points the Eagles scored on Wingate are the most that the Bulldogs have given up this season.  Wingate entered the game as the nation's top scoring defense, allowing just 9.8 points per game.  C-N more than quadrupled that.  The Eagles also gained 464, more than 200 yards above what Wingate (the sixth best team in terms of total defense) was giving up a game. Carson-Newman was led on the ground by Montavious Taylor, who carried the ball a career-high 20 times for 143 yards.  Damian Baker (Columbus, Miss.) added 89 yards on 17 carries.  De'Andre Thomas had 72 yards rushing and two scores.

Men's soccer v. Young Harris: The Eagles scored three goals in the second half to knock off the 16th-ranked Young Harris Mountain Lions at McCown Field on Oct. 13th. Freshman Thibault Mathorez (Graces, France) and junior Tom Read (London, England) tallied two of C-N's goals while the Mountain Lions also contributed an own goal. The win was the first-ever for Carson-Newman against Young Harris in five meetings. The win was the Eagles' second over a ranked team during the year, which was the first time in a decade.

Volleyball v. Catawba: On the brink of defeat in the fifth set, the volleyball team won the final four points of match to take a five-set victory over the Catawba Indians 24-26, 25-16, 25-16, 18-25 and 15-13 on October 23 at Holt Fieldhouse as part of Dig Pink Weekend. With Carson-Newman trailing 13-11, Carson-Newman coach Dan Ahiers called timeout. An attack error from Rachel Gallup put junior libero Taylor Lowe (Franklin, Tenn.) on serve. Lowe's second service ace of the match tied the score and back-to-back kills from junior middle blocker Maddie Borch (Walnut Creek, Calif.) sealed a five-set victory. Three Eagles finished in double figures in kills on the evening led by 19 from senior outside hitter Sara Fairley (Charlotte, N.C.). Junior middle blocker Maddie Borch (Walnut Creek, Calif.) piled up a career-high 16 kills coupled with a .536 attack percentage and senior outside hitter Molly Locke (College Grove, Tenn.) had 12 kills and 15 digs, her ninth double-double of the year.
