BELLEVUE, Wash. – Carson-Newman football has been named the best college football team in the state of Tennessee by Hero Sports.
The Eagles have the most wins of any football team in the state of Tennessee since 2010. C-N is 46-22 since that season and has seven more victories than the University of Tennessee.

It's worth noting -- Carson-Newman boasts the best winning percentage among all NCAA and NAIA football programs in the Volunteer State over the past six seasons. It's also worth noting that, in Ken Sparks' 36 seasons at Mossy Creek, the Eagles have appeared in three D2 football championship games and won five NAIA national championships in the 1980s before transitioning to D2 in 1992. In the 18 years between 1982 and 1999, Carson-Newman made 17 NAIA and NCAA playoff appearances. Even though those NAIA titles aren't factored into our final score, the Eagles are still our top football team in Tennessee.
The Eagles take home the crown based on a scoring system relative to success within each team's division.
Scores are based on the following criteria:
Winning Percentage (since 2010) x 10
Each Conference Championship (Since 2000): 0.5 points
National Championships (Since 1960): 1 point
MVP Awards (Heisman/Payton/Hill/Gagliardi): 1 point
AFCA Coach of the Year Awards: 1 point
Carson-Newman had 9.87 points. That would have gone to 14.87 points if the Eagles' five NAIA national titles factored into the equation.
