HAMPTON, Ga. -- The Carson-Newman men's golf team finished in a
tie for seventh place on Monday after round one of the second
annual State Farm-Laker Invitational at Crystal Lake Golf and
Country Club, hosted by Clayton State.
The Eagles carded a 291 (+3) and are 10 strokes back of the
leaders. Top-ranked Georgia College and No. 2 Berry University lead
the event after each shooting a 281 (-7), while Newberry is close
behind with a team score of 284 (-4).
C-N senior Brad Robinson (Johnson City, Tenn.) carded a
three-under 69 to finish the day in a tie for fourth place.
Robinson is just three strokes back of Newberry's Daniel Stanley,
who leads the event after firing a six-under 66.
C-N's Chase Conn (Mason, Ohio) and Liam Ashby (Dublin, Ireland)
turned in rounds of 73 and 74, respectively, while Cory Hinchey
(Abingdon, Va.) and Gavin Hay (Glasgow, Scotland) each shot a 75
for the Eagles.
The first day of the tournament was originally scheduled for two
rounds, but the second round was called early due to heavy rains.
The tournament will be shortened to 36 holes, with the second round
set for Tuesday at Crystal Lake.
