Eagles Top SAC School in Queens Invitational Played at TPC Sawgrass

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Carson-Newman's Liam Ashby (Dublin, Ireland) carded a 71 on day two for a two-day 143 (-1) to finish sixth overall at the Queens Invitational played Tuesday at the TPC Sawgrass in Jacksonville, Fla.

As a team, the Eagles finished 12th, ahead of South Atlantic Conference foes Wingate, Catawba, and Tusculum. C-N finished at 31-over as a team, after a two-day 607 (307-300).

Ashby's 1-under second round was the only score under par for C-N on the tournament.

Freshman Gavin Hay (Glasgow, Scotland) and senior Brad Robinson (Johnson City, Tenn.) finished a stroke apart. Hay finished in a tie for 50th with a pair of 77s, while Robinson closed in a tie for 55th after turning in a 79-76 (155, +11) for his two days.

Junior Chase Conn (Mason, Ohio) finished 64th with a two-day 156, while fellow-junior John Minor, Jr. carded a 159, good for 75th.

Barton College held off a strong second round by Florida Southern to win the tournament.

Florida Southern turned in the best round of the day with a 280, but could not overcome Barton's first round of 288, and finished in second place, 581 (301-280). Matt Stauch of Florida Southern won the individual title with a 140 (73-67). Stauch's 67 was the low score of the two day event. Bringing home the third place trophy was Flagler College with a score of 586 (293-293). Chris Bray turned in a one-under for his second round, adding to his two-under from the first round to earn second place overall.

C-N returns to action this weekend in the Southeast Championship Preview held at the Tanglewood Park Golf Club in Clemmons, N.C.
