C-N Treks to Greenville for SAC Championships

VIDEO: Elliot MacGregor Interview

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman men's golf heads to the Preserve at Verdae in Greenville, South Carolina, to compete against the South Atlantic Conference's best in the three-day SAC Championships, starting on Sunday at 10 a.m.

The Eagles return to action for the first time almost two weeks after the Trevecca Music City Invitational. C-N finished the event in third, led by two top-ten finishes. Elliot MacGregor tied for 6th following a season-best 66-stroke third round to finish at 3-under. Nick Daugherty tied for 10th, carding back-to-back 68s in the opening two rounds before a 73-stroke third round to finish at 1-under.

C-N will compete against three teams in the Scoreboard top 25, with No. 2 Lincoln Memorial, No. 13 Wingate, and No. 25 Lenoir-Rhyne headlining the three-day conference championships. The Eagles believe they can compete with the best if they do what they know they can do.

"We've just got to play smart," Elliot MacGregor said. "It's nice that it's only 18 holes each day, instead of our regular tournaments where it's 36 and 18. That will help us with our endurance."

As it has throughout the spring, C-N's lineup features a mix of youth and experience. Three upperclassmen compete, joined by two freshmen, for the three-day event. MacGregor believes all five have the talent to secure a top finish.

"I believe all of us could win it individually," MacGregor said. "We have the talent to do it. If we can all go out there, play well, and drive each other to post good scores, hopefully, the team will do good enough to make regionals."

The Eagles lineup consists of MacGregor, Nick Daugherty, Aidan Powter, and the two freshmen, Owen Larson and Stafans Spruzs.

Spruzs will be the first Eagle to tee off on the first round at 10 a.m., followed by Owen Larson (10:09 a.m.), Aidan Powter (10:18 a.m.), Nick Daugherty (10:27 a.m.), and Elliot MacGregor (10:36 a.m.). Live stats of the three-day event will be on Scoreboard.
