Carson-Newman Women’s Golf Sixth After Day One Of The 2009 Wendy’s Invitational

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Carson-Newman Women’s Golf Team is sixth against mostly NCAA Division I competition after day one of the 2009 Wendy’s Invitational hosted by Charleston Southern at Coosaw Creek Country Club. The Lady Eagles shot a +32 (316) in the first 18 holes of the tournament and are the top Division II team.

The College of Charleston is the top team after firing a 298 (+14) while Charleston Southern’s Olivia Jordan-Higgins leads the individual competition with a -1 (70) on the par-71 course.

C-N was paced by sophomore Erica Ray (Maryville, Tenn.) as she carded a +4 (75) to finish tied for seventh spot on the day. Senior Sara Jane Sinard (Jefferson City, Tenn.) went into the club house with a 77 (+6) after the first day of competition to tie for 13th place.

Sophomore Jennifer Oliver (Knoxville, Tenn.) was another notable for the Lady Eagles, finishing tied for 21st with a +8 (89).

Carson-Newman will complete the 36-hole tournament Tuesday, as the final round is set to begin at 7:45 a.m.
