Lady Eagles Take Third at McAmis Memorial

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles slipped one spot to finish third after firing a 19-over 307 in the final round of the McAmis Memorial Golf Tournament held on Tuesday at Link Hills Golf Club in Greeneville, Tenn.

The Lady Eagles finished as the top school among six South Atlantic Conference teams that participated in the tournament. The Lady Eagles closed at 611 for a two-day total, 23 strokes ahead of Catawba College.

Methodist University (N.C.) took the team championship with a 604, finishing one stroke ahead of Belmont Abbey College.  

Carson-Newman's Jessica Tarbet (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished fifth at 148 (+4), eight strokes off the pace set by tournament medalist, Methodist's Susan Martin.

Senior Sarah Jane Sinard (Jefferson City, Tenn.) closed with a 5-over 77 on Tuesday to slip to ninth. She enters next week's South Atlantic Conference Tournament as the defending champion.

Freshman Melanie Manis (Louisville, Tenn.) slipped to 16th after a second round 79. She finished at 153 (+9), just two strokes out of the top 10.

C-N's Erica Ray (Maryville, Tenn.) rallied with a 76 on Tuesday to move up 15 spots after carding an 84 on Monday. She finished 32nd.

The Lady Eagles begin their defense of their 2009 South Atlantic Conference title on Monday at the 2010 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament in Etowah Valley, N.C.
