Lady Eagles Eighth After First Round of Ashland Desert Invitational

MESA, Ariz. — The Carson-Newman women's golf team is in eighth place after shooting a 333 (+49) on Wednesday in the first round of the Ashland Desert Invitational at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.

The Lady Eagles are 18 shots back of No. 7 Tarleton State, which leads the loaded tournament field after carding a 315 (+31). Six of the teams in the event are nationally ranked.

C-N senior Sarah Jane Sinard (Jefferson City, Tenn.) is tied for fifth place after turning in a 78 (+7) on Wednesday. Sinard is just one stroke behind Tarleton's Carla Cooper, Grand Valley State's Sarah Hoffman, Angelo State's Raelyn Smith and Indianapolis' Lyndsay McBride, who are tied for the tournament lead after carding 77s on Wednesday.

Junior Jessica Tarbet (Knoxville, Tenn.) shot an 83 (+12) to finish the day in a tie for 19th, while Lady Eagle sophomore Erica Ray (Maryville, Tenn.) is in a tie for 25th after shooting an 84. Freshman Melanie Manis (Louisville, Tenn.) turned in a first-round 88 and is in a tie for 34th place, and Jennifer Oliver (Knoxville, Tenn.) shot a 93 to tie for 44th place.

The final round of the Ashland Desert Invitational will begin on Thursday morning at Longbow Golf Club.
