Carson-Newman Finishes Seventh in NCAA Super Region 2 Women's Golf Tournament

SALISBURY, N.C. — The Carson-Newman women's golf team shot a final-round 317 (+35) to finish in seventh place at the NCAA Division II Super Region 2 Tournament on Tuesday at the Country Club of Salisbury.

The Lady Eagles wrapped up their first-ever NCAA Regional appearance with a three-day total of 949 (313-317-319).

Top-ranked Nova Southeastern claimed first place after shooting an even-par 284 on Tuesday to finish the tournament with a score of 890 (+38). Florida Southern finished second with a total of 899, followed by Rollins (905), Barry (927), Belmont Abbey (935) and St. Leo (943). Newberry (950) and Lynn (955) rounded out the field.

Nova Southeastern, Florida Southern and Rollins all advance to the NCAA Championship.

Junior Jessica Tarbet (Corryton, Tenn.) recorded the highest finish for C-N as she carded a 78 (+7) to tie for 11th with a score of 228 (+15). Freshman Melanie Manis (Louisville, Tenn.) tied for 24th after shooting an 8-over 79 on Tuesday.

Senior Sarah Jane Sinard (White Pine, Tenn.) ended the day in 32nd with a three-day total of 240 (85-75-80), while Erica Ray (Maryville, Tenn.) finished 43rd with a score of 245 (77-86-82).

Rollins' Joanna Cole fired a 2-under 69 to win medalist honors. Cole finished the tournament with a three-day total of 212 (-1).

Four players tied at 226 (+13), and it took two holes to decide the three individuals to advance. All four made par on the opening hole. Newberry's Maria Luz Besio then claimed her spot with a birdie on the second hole. Carley Warrington, of Belmont Abbey, was able to get up and down for a par, while Barry's Isadora Stapff two-putted for her par to advance. The other involved in the playoff was Lizzi Over, of Barry. She hit a fairway bunker off the tee and missed a par putt.
