Lady Eagles Claim Third Place in Ralph Hargett Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Carson-Newman women's golf team carded a final-round 335 (+47) on Tuesday to claim third place in Wingate's Ralph Hargett Invitational at Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation.

The Lady Eagles finished the tournament with a two-day total of 665. Newberry College fired a second-round 317 (+29) to win the tournament with a 637, while UNC Pembroke claimed second place with a 654 after shooting a 329 (+41) on Tuesday.

C-N senior Sarah Jane Sinard (Jefferson City, Tenn.) shaved seven strokes off of her first round score to shoot a 77 (+5) and finish the event in a tie for sixth with a 161. Junior Jessica Tarbett (Knoxville, Tenn.) turned in a second-round 85 to finish in a tie for eighth with a 162.

Lady Eagle freshman Melanie Manis (Louisville, Tenn.) tied for 17th with a two-day total of 168 (83-85), while Erica Ray (Maryville, Tenn.) and Jennifer Oliver (Knoxville, Tenn.) tied for 33rd and 41st, respectively, with scores of 174 (86-88) and 178 (88-90).

Newberry's Maria Luz Besio won medalist honors over teammate Lisa Brandl in a playoff. Besio carded a 77 (+5) on Tuesday to give her a two-day total of 155.

The Lady Eagles return to the course on April 12 in the Tusculum College Agnis McAmis Invitational in Greeneville, Tenn.
