Stringle Goal Lofts Eagles Past Lees-McRae 1-0

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Carson-Newman Eagles (2-2) women's soccer picked up its second straight victory with a 1-0 win over the Lees-McRae Bobcats (1-2-1) at Tate Field on Saturday afternoon.

After 80 scoreless minutes, Carson-Newman got the winning goal on a strike by junior forward Danna Stringle (Woodstock, Ontario) from 20 yards out on the right flank to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead, which would be the final score.

"Probably the best goal I've seen all season," said Carson-Newman Director of Soccer and head coach Richard Moodie. "The girls held on for the win, just another great team performance."

Carson-Newman made six shots throughout the match, with Stringle making three of them. Mikayla Gregg, Sidnee Edwards, and Brooke Ehman also made shots for the Eagles, all on goal.

The Eagles withstood 25 Bobcat shots, five of which were on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Kendra Ivins picked up the victory, and has now picked up 162 consecutive shutout minutes between the posts for Carson-Newman.

"We're making it difficult right now for anyone to be able to walk away with points," said Moodie. "A great result today and we look forward to the home opener and getting people into McCown Field."

Carson-Newman will next play in its home opener on Wednesday Sept. 12 against North Georgia at McCown Field at 6 p.m.
