Eagles Host Rival Tusculum Wednesday

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Eagles (2-7, 0-3 South Atlantic Conference) women's soccer team will host their conference rivals, the Tusculum Pioneers (8-1-1, 3-0 South Atlantic Conference) on Wednesday at McCown Field at 6 p.m.

Carson-Newman has lost its last five matches, and fell in overtime to Limestone 2-1 last Saturday at McCown Field. Junior forward Danna Stringle (Woodstock, Ontario, Canada) scored for Carson-Newman in the loss.

"Hopefully playing against a better team in Tusculum will help raise the bar of play," said Carson-Newman head coach Richard Moodie. "The girls are in good spirits, we had a good practice yesterday so we'll see where we are Wednesday."

The Pioneers have won their last four matches and haven't lost a match since Sept. 2. Tusculum won its last match against Belmont Abbey 4-0 on Saturday.

The Pioneers, coached by Mike Joy, were picked to finish third in the preseason SAC coaches' poll, with Tramica James, Monica Perez, and Jana Linke earning preseason All-SAC honors. Tusculum's 3-0 mark in SAC play has the Pioneers tied atop the SAC standings with Lenoir-Rhyne, who is 4-0 in conference play.

Fans are encouraged to arrive at the match early, as supporters that arrive at 5:30 p.m. will be entered into a raffle to win a free helicopter ride from campus to Sevierville and then will be chauffeured back to campus after the helicopter ride.

"We just want to get people out to support the girls and try to get right behind them against Tusculum," said Moodie.

A live audio webcast of the match will be available on www.cneagles.com.

EAGLES ADD MATCH AT TREVECCA NAZARENE ON OCT. 17

Carson-Newman has added a match to its 2012 women's soccer schedule, as the Eagles will face Trevecca Nazarene in Nashville, Tenn., on Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. The match will be Carson-Newman's final road contest of the 2012 campaign.

"It will be a good team that we play against in Trevecca," said Moodie. "They just turned Division II, it's a team that's close by that we probably need to get on the schedule. We mainly added this game for our players, I think it's good for the girls."
