Eagles fall to Wingate 3-0

WINGATE, N.C. – The Carson-Newman Eagles (2-6) women's soccer team fell to the Wingate Bulldogs (4-1-1) 3-0 at the WU Soccer Complex on Saturday.

Wingate's sophomore forward Jade Montgomery scored all three goals for the Bulldogs, the second hat trick of her career.

This is the fourth consecutive loss for the Eagles, and Carson-Newman is now 0-3 in South Atlantic Conference play.

The two teams fought to a scoreless first period, with Wingate outshooting Carson-Newman 6-2.

Montgomery's first goal came in the 51st minute mark, just over five minutes into the second period. Montgomery scored on a header off of Meaghan Berry's corner kick to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

The Eagles kept the Bulldogs scoreless over the next 32 minutes, as Montgomery's next goal came in the 83rd minute mark. Montgomery scored on an assist from Danielle Cremmen to hit a line drive goal to extend the advantage to 2-0.

The final goal in the match came less than a minute later in the 84th minute mark. Montgomery scored on an assist from Holly Holsclaw to put the score at 3-0, which would be the final.

Wingate outshot Carson-Newman in the match 12-5, with the Bulldogs putting nine shots on goal compared to the Eagles' three.

Carson-Newman freshman goalkeeper Kendra Ivins (Chattanooga, Tenn.), took the loss as she played all 90 minutes between the posts. Ivins collected six saves while allowing three goals. Wingate goalkeeper Miriam Boucher earned the shutout win for the Bulldogs, getting three saves in the match.

Carson-Newman will next play on Saturday Sept. 29 against Limestone at home on McCown Field at 12 p.m. A live audio webcast of the match will be available on www.cneagles.com.
