Eagles fall to Trojans 1-0

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Eagles (2-11-2, 0-7-1 South Atlantic Conference) women's soccer team fell to the Anderson Trojans (7-5-3, 4-2-2 South Atlantic Conference) by a 1-0 score at McCown Field on Saturday evening.

The Eagles outshot the Trojans 13-11 in the match, yet Carson-Newman could not get a shot past Anderson goalkeeper Kaitlyn Neipp.

Anderson scored the game's lone goal in the seventh minute of the first period. Summer Miller scored on an assist by Krystal Goss to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead, which would be the final score.

The Eagles outshot the Trojans 6-4 in the first period, while both teams put together seven shots in the second period.

Anderson's goal came against Carson-Newman senior goalkeeper Tiarna McKenna (Lisburn, Northern Ireland), who also made three saves in her just over 48 minutes between the posts.

Three minutes into the second period, the Eagles switched from McKenna to freshman Kendra Ivins (Chattanooga, Tenn.) at goalkeeper.

Ivins didn't allow any goals and made four saves during the final just over 41 minutes of the match.

Carson-Newman was led in shots by junior forward Bianca Hall (Newcastle, England) with her three shots, including one on goal.

Carson-Newman also saw multi-shot efforts by junior midfielder Sylvia Palermo (Wintergarden, Fla.), freshman midfielder Mikayla Gregg (Newport, Tenn.) and sophomore midfielder Sidnee Edwards (Knoxville, Tenn.).

The Eagles registered five shots on goal during the match, yet Neipp made each save as she collected the shutout victory, working all 90 minutes between the posts for Anderson.

The loss continues Carson-Newman's winless drought, as the Eagles have not won a match since Sept. 8.

Carson-Newman will next play on Tuesday Oct. 23 at home against North Alabama. The match at McCown Field begins at 3 p.m., and a live audio webcast will be available at www.cneagles.com.
