Eagles host Catawba in Saturday Soccer Doubleheader

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman men's and women's soccer programs will host the Catawba Indians men's and women's soccer programs for a soccer doubleheader on Saturday evening at McCown Field.

Both Eagle teams are looking to get back on the winning track, with the women's team looking to snap a six-match losing streak, while the men's team hasn't won since Sept. 19.

"Catawba is a lot like us," said Carson-Newman head coach Richard Moodie. "They are very well coached, and very similar to us in that they will never give up in a match."

Carson-Newman's women's soccer team (2-8, 0-4 South Atlantic Conference) fell in its last match to Tusculum 3-2, with the Eagles rallying to a pair of late goals. Catawba's women's soccer team (7-4, 2-2 South Atlantic Conference) has won their last four matches, with the most recent victory a 3-2 overtime win over Pfeiffer on Wednesday.

The Indians were picked to finish fifth in the conference, with defender Anna Toole named to the preseason All-SAC team. Juliana Conte leads Catawba with five goals and 12 points this season.

The Carson-Newman men's team (4-4-1, 2-1-1 South Atlantic Conference) hasn't played since last Saturday's 3-2 loss to no. 10 Young Harris. The Eagles were scheduled to face Milligan on Tuesday, but that match was postponed due to wet grounds.

"The boys fought hard against Young Harris, it was a good test of character," said Moodie. "We gave the boys the day off Tuesday, right now we're trying to be full strength going into Saturday's game."

The Catawba men's team (6-2-3, 1-0-3 South Atlantic Conference) have won their last three matches, and have either won or drawn each match since Sept. 5. Corey Faughnan leads Catawba with six goals and 14 points on 27 shots this season.

"It's always nice to be at home," said Moodie. "We've just got to take advantage of it, make the most of it, and hopefully we can get people out and support us."

Live stats of both matches will be available on www.cneagles.com.
