JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Eagles (2-7) women's soccer team fell in overtime 2-1 to the Limestone Saints (5-3) on Saturday afternoon at McCown Field.

The loss is Carson-Newman' s fifth straight, although junior forward Danna Stringle (Woodstock, Ontario, Canada) added her second goal of the season for the Eagles in the first period.

"I felt like we couldn't put the ball down in play," said Carson-Newman head coach Richard Moodie. "Times are tough right now, even more so for the girls, but right now it's just a case of the girls trying to figure it out. Just an ugly game all around."

Limestone scored the match's first goal in the 12th minute mark. Gabriella Reid scored on an unassisted goal from the left side of the box to put the Saints ahead 1-0.

Stringle's goal tied the match at one in the 29th minute mark. She scored on a header off of a Jenna Bryan (Salisbury, N.C.) corner kick to even the match at one.

Neither team scored in the second period, sending the match to overtime. Carson-Newman outshot Limestone 17-5 through the two regulation periods.

Limestone's Reid scored the game-winning goal in the 101st minute of the match in overtime, lofting a shot over Carson-Newman goalkeeper Tiarna McKenna (Lisburn, Northern Ireland) to end the match in a 2-1 victory for the Saints.

McKenna took the loss, her first of the season allowing a pair of goals while collecting a save. Limestone goalkeeper Mariette Martinez earned the win, allowing one goal and collecting nine saves.

"Tiarna McKenna had a great game I thought," said Moodie. "Limestone scored two very similar goals, and she blamed herself for the last goal but I don't."

Carson-Newman will return to conference play on Wednesday night, hosting Tusculum at McCown Field. The match begins at 6 p.m. A live audio webcast of the match will be available on www.cneagles.com.
