GAFFNEY, S.C. – For the second straight season, Carson-Newman (4-2-2, 1-1-2 SAC) and Limestone (2-5-2, 1-3-1 SAC) played to a draw, tying 1-1 on Sunday afternoon at Saints Field.
"Honestly, thought we did enough to win the game today," Carson-Newman head coach Simon Duffy said. "Overall, very happy with the effort, attitude, and quality. Their penalty was really the only time they threatened us. Glad we were able to get one back. For us, it was a night and day difference in our team performance today compared to our last match."
Carson-Newman's first three shots of the game were all on target. In the fourth minute, Malia Kim fired the game's first shot that forced a save. 11 minutes later, Selina Jud's (Wilderswil, Switzerland) shot from outside the box forced another early save and set up a C-N corner. Iris Palsdottir took one of C-N's best chances in the opening half, as her left-footed shot from distance was pushed over top of goal.
Palsdottir's header in the 34th minute served as Carson-Newman's fourth shot on target that was saved in the opening half.
The Eagles took the game's first six shots, four on goal before Limestone got its first. The Saints' first chance came in the 43rd minute. A through ball set up a chance for Adele Thorberg whose shot was saved by C-N goalkeeper Berna Kabakci (Zeddam, Netherlands).
The match took a turn early in the second half. Limestone had a promising attack forward into the box, with a foul being committed by C-N, giving the Saints a penalty kick. Lucia Hidalgo converted the penalty kick to give the Saints a 1-0 advantage in the 54th minute.
Carson-Newman had an immediate response. Just three minutes later, Jud took aim from distance and slotted a shot in the bottom left corner for her second goal of the season to tie the match at 1.

Neither side took a shot for the next 27 minutes, with C-N finally breaking up the stretch in the 83rd minute. Felicia Frick (Eschen, Liechtenstein) headed a free kick toward the target forcing a fifth Rosemary Elliot save.
That shot would go down as the last one of the match and the only one recorded after both goals were scored less than three minutes apart.
The Eagles were able to get a pair of corners in the second half but could not convert the chances.
Duffy's team outshot the Saints 10-4 and 6-2 on goal and managed a 6 to advantage in corner kicks as well.
Jud's 57th minute goal gives her now nine in her Carson-Newman career and has scored multiple goals in each of her first three seasons. She joins Karli Pettitt (Kingston, Tenn.) and Krista Nielsen (Saudarkrokur, Iceland) has C-N's only multi-goal scorers this season.
Facing just three shots, Kabakci saved one of them with the lone goal allowed being a penalty kick.
Elliot made a game-high five saves for the Saints.
Carson-Newman gets a week off before returning to action at home versus Mars Hill on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. A live stream of the game is available with a subscription to FloSports at cneagles.com/flowsoc.
