JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (5-2-2, 2-1-2 SAC) remained unbeaten at home, collecting a 2-0 shutout win versus Mars Hill (1-6-1, 0-3-1 SAC) on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at McCown Field.

"Glad to get the win and the clean sheet," Carson-Newman women's soccer head coach Simon Duffy said. "We played very well at times. It could have been more but glad we came away with the win, that is the most important thing, getting three points."

The win extends Carson-Newman's unbeaten streak against Mars Hill to 19 straight games.

The Eagles stay unbeaten at home, improving to 4-0 this season. They have won their last five home games dating back this past season's home finale. Carson-Newman has outscored its opponents in the four home wins by a 11-2 tally.

Carson-Newman's Selina Jud (Wilderswil, Switzerland) took the game's shot in the sixth minute, missing wide left on the first opportunity.

Krista Nielsen fired the first shot on target, having her attempt in the 16th minute stopped by Lions goalkeeper Camryn Miller. Sandwiched between that and C-N's next shot on goal was a pair of corner kicks in the 17th and 23rd minutes that Mars Hill was able to defend.

The Eagles took the game's first ten shots, and the tenth was the most important one. Anita Arnadottir (Alfantes, Iceland) took advantage of a mistake by Miller and slotted her second career goal into the back of the net to put C-N up 1-0 at intermission.

C-N outshot Mars Hill 10-2 in the opening half and 5-1 on goal.

Carson-Newman extended its lead in the 56th minute. A beautiful ball forward by Karli Pettitt (Kingston, Tenn.) set up a scoring chance. Savannah Fields (Johnson City, Tenn.) chased down the flick forward and dribbled into the box where she beat Miller in a 1v1 to make it 2-0 Eagles. The goal was Fields' second of the season.

Mars Hill only fired one shot in the second half. It came from Samantha Swinson in the 81st minute, and Berna Kabakci (Zeddam, Netherlands) was up for the task to keep the clean sheet intact.

The shutout is C-N's third this season and the third for Kabakci as well. She made two saves in the 2-0 win.

The goals from Arnadottir and Fields both were their seconds this season, becoming the fourth and fifth Eagles to score multiple goals now this season.

Pettitt's assist on Fields' goal was her second this season, increasing her team-high point total to ten on the season.

Arnadottir recorded a team-high three shots, with three others recording multiple in the game as well. C-N outshot Mars Hill 16-3 and 6-2 on goal. It also managed seven corner kicks to Mars Hill's one.

Carson-Newman has won all five games that it has scored the first goal in this season. C-N also remains an unbeaten 4-0-1 when scoring multiple goals and is 4-0 when leading at halftime as well.

Carson-Newman stays at home and returns to the pitch on Wednesday when it welcomes Lincoln Memorial to McCown Field. The match will start at 5:00 p.m. A live stream of the game is available with a subscription to FloSports at cneagles.com/flowsoc.
