Lady Eagles score first conference win on the road

HICKORY, N.C. – Carson-Newman (7-7, 1-4 South Atlantic Conference) beat Lenoir Rhyne (0-11) 7-2 on the road to bring home its first conference win and secure a three-game win streak on Monday afternoon.

Carson-Newman picked up a win in the doubles point before cruising to a victory in singles. 

Stefy Stand (Ecuador) pulled in the first victory for Carson-Newman in a third set tiebreaker 2-6, 6-2, 10-2 against Kelsey Love at no. 1 singles. Following suit in the no. 3 spot, Haleigh Chastain (Knoxville, Tenn.) went 6-4, 6-2 versus Nateesha Hurtt. At no. 2 singles, Patricia Guerreiro (Portugal) faced off against Ivey Tant finalizing with a 6-1, 6-1 score.

In the no. 5 position, Brooke Sanderson (Evans, Ga.) triumphed over Maggie Brown 6-1, 6-2. Tiffany Delias (Morristown, Tenn.) brought in a 6-4, 6-2 win versus Amanda Bryan at no. 6 singles.

In doubles play, Chastain and Ott (Knoxville, Tenn.) crushed the opposing pair of Bryan and Meaghan Liner 8-0 in the no. 2 spot. Likewise, the team of Stand and Guerreiro found success against Love and Tant at no. 1 doubles concluding with an 8-4 decision.

Sanderson and Megan Wilson (Maryville, Tenn.) neared victory but fell in the end 8-4 to Brown and Lapp.

The Eagles face North Georgia on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m.
