Lady Eagles drop close match to Mars Hill to conclude season

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (8-12, 2-7 SAC) dropped a hard-fought match to Mars Hill (2-12, 2-7 SAC) Sunday afternoon 5-4.

Freshman Brooke Sanderson (Evans, Ga.) defeated Natalie Hilbig 6-2, 6-1 at no. 5 singles finishing out the regular season on a three-game win streak. In the no. 4 singles spot, Jen Ott (Knoxville, Tenn.) triumphed over Aly Jones 6-1, 6-4.

Senior Tiffany Delias (Morristown, Tenn.) won her match at no. 6 singles by default. She closes out her final season for Carson-Newman on a three-match win streak.

In doubles play, Sanderson and Megan Wilson (Maryville, Tenn.) won by default in the no. 3 position.

Haleigh Chastian (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Ott battled hard against Hilbig and Marian Pinate at no. 2 doubles, but the match resulted in a 9-7 loss.

Carson-Newman concludes its 2013 campaign in eighth place in the SAC standings.
