Lady Eagles bring home big win against Railsplitters

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (8-7, 2-5 SAC) brought home its second conference victory with a win against Lincoln Memorial (5-7, 3-4 SAC) Sunday afternoon at the Carson-Newman Tennis Complex. The Eagles have now won four of their last six to garner a winning record for the year.

In singles play, senior Tiffany Delias (Morristown, Tenn.) shredded Summer Robinson in two sets 6-2, 6-1 in the no. 6 spot. She is now on a three-game winning streak. At no. 5, Brooke Sanderson (Evans, Ga.) defeated Jessica Baker in a close match 6-1, 7-5. Haleigh Chastain (Knoxville, Tenn.) brought in another victory at no. 3 singles beating Alexandra Granger 6-4, 6-2.

Stefy Stand (Ecuador) had a win at her fingertips before dropping the match after a first set tiebreaker to Leah Donoff 7-6 (10-4), 6-2 at no. 1 singles. In the no. 2 position, Patricia Guerreiro (Portugal) also neared success but the match resulted in a loss 7-5, 6-3 to Elena Vasilyeva.

In doubles competition, Chastain and Jen Ott (Knoxville, Tenn.) teamed up to triumph over Jessica Baker and Alexandra Granger 8-6 at no. 2. Sanderson and Megan Wilson (Maryville, Tenn.) brought in another point at no. 3 doubles after beating Vasilyeva and Robinson 8-4.

Stand and Guerreiro played well at no. 1 doubles but fell in the end 9-7 to Aura Penalosa and Leah Donoff.

The Eagles head to the University of the Cumberlands on Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
