JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman tallied a season-high 13 service aces with five different players recording at least one in a straight set victory over Emory & Henry, 25-19, 25-11 and 25-17, Saturday evening Holt Fieldhouse.

"That's been something in practice that we have hounded on them," Carson-Newman coach Ashley Tiernan said. "There have been lots of conversations about missing serves in games and at critical moments. The atmosphere we created in practice helped us get these service aces tonight."

The 13 aces were the most by the club since tallying 16 against UVA Wise on Sept. 25, 2021 after the team's season high was eight. Carson-Newman (12-2, 5-1) recorded the win in the first meeting against Emory & Henry (1-11, 1-5).

Emmagrace Cobb (Greensboro, N.C.) posted a .636 hitting percentage with eight kills on 11 swings tallying a pair of block assists.

"Me and Carlee [Allbaugh] have been clicking the past couple weeks," Cobb said. "When our passes are good and she gets a good pass, I get a good set and I put it down. It's been so nice to be home. Travelling has been so tiring especially with classes on Monday morning. It's been nice to play at home with our home fans on our home court."

Julia Wheeler (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) equaled the match high with 13 hitting .321. Blake Cherry (Cookeville, Tenn.) filled up the stat sheet with seven kills, six digs and four aces.

Carlee Allbaugh (Tallahassee, Fla.) posted 28 assists, four digs and three aces. Hayden Barton (Hixson, Tenn.) was the only player on the floor in double figures with 10 digs. McKenna Hall (Bristol, Wis.) added four aces.

C-N came out of the gates firing winning the first five points going ahead 10-2 before the Wasps rattled off seven of the next eight to pull with two. The Eagles responded with four straight but the visitors came back to within one at 18-17. The Orange and Blue won four straight and put the set away on a kill from Cherry.

The teams swapped the first 10 rallies before the home side caught fire winning the next three. A 7-0 run highlighted by three aces from Hall highlighted a 20-6 close to the set by the Eagles.

Carson-Newman was strong to start the third going ahead 5-2 but the Wasps battled back to tie the score at six. The Eagles won five of the next six to build a bulge that it would never relinquish sealing the deal on a service error by Camden Jones.

Jones had a big day on the floor with 13 kills hitting .407 with five digs. Julissa Hopgood tossed in nine smashes but the rest of the roster tallied seven kills and nine attack errors.

Payton Rolfsen and Paige Halcrow added 14 and 11 assists respectively. Libby Bickelhaupt posted a team-high seven digs.

The Eagles get the midweek off before hitting the floor again against Newberry next Friday night at 7 p.m. with a contest versus Anderson scheduled on Saturday at 5 p.m.
