Cherry collects SAC Defensive Player of the Week honor

ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the first time in her career, Blake Cherry earned a weekly laurel being named the South Atlantic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week announced on Tuesday by the league.

In wins over Mars Hill and Limestone, the sophomore racked up 19 kills, 35 digs, seven block assists and four service aces scoring 36.5 points.

To open the week, Cherry registered a career-high 28 digs adding 10 kills in a clash of the top two teams in the Mountain Division aiding the Eagles to a five-set win over Mars Hill Tuesday night at Holt Fieldhouse.

Sweeping Limestone on Friday, the outside hitter produced nine kills, seven digs and three block assists in the team's final home regular-season match of the year.

For the season, she leads the conference with 44 total service aces and is fourth in aces per set with 0.46. Overall her 302 digs are good for seventh in the SAC posting 3.15, a number that ranks 14th in the league.
