ROCK HILL, S.C. - Julia Wheeler provided another dazzling week on the court guiding Carson-Newman to five wins earning the South Atlantic Conference's Offensive Player of the Week for second consecutive week announced on Monday.
The laurel is the fifth time in the Murfreesboro, Tenn. native's career she has earned a weekly honor bringing her overall career award tally to eight after cleaning up postseason honors in 2021. She is the first Eagle to win back-to-back SAC weekly plaudits since Megan Oldenburger opened the Spring 2021 season with two in a row.
Over five matches, Wheeler tallied 86 total kills with 53 digs, six service aces and five blocks on the week. She registered double-digit kills in every match and had a hitting percentage of .260 for the week, while averaging five points per set and recording four double-doubles.
In a comeback five-set win at Tusculum to start the week, last week's Tennessee Sportswriters Association Player of the Week led the attack with 19 kills and 13 digs. It was just the start for the senior.
Opening the Pacer Invitational, the Volunteer State native continued her blazing start to the year with a match-high 14 kills throwing in a dozen digs in a sweep of Auburn-Montgomery. Later on Friday, she paced all players on the floor with 14 more kills chipping in 10 digs in a straight set win at USC Aiken.
Rounding out the weekend on Saturday, Wheeler led all players with 17 kills making just two mistakes on a .441 attack percentage. To close out action in a five-set win over North Greenville, she led all players with 22 kills hitting .264 chipping in a dozen digs.
Wheeler is off to a torrid start to the season currently ranking fifth in Division II with 133 kills, 10th in kills in per set at 4.59 and 11th in points per game with 5.10.
