Eagles, No. 15 Barry Play to 1-1 Tie

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman men's soccer team overcame a goal by Barry in the first minute and battled the 15th-ranked Buccaneers to a 1-1 tie on Friday night at McCown Field.

With the draw, C-N is now 1-1-1 on the season. Barry moves to 1-0-1.

The Eagles fell behind 1-nil just 28 seconds into the match, as Barry's Sascha Koettig (Berlin, Germany) lofted a ball over the head of C-N goalkeeper Michael Alley (Kingsport, Tenn.). Mark Anderson (Durham, England) and Sean Trinidad (White Plains, N.Y.) were credited with assists on the play.

C-N remained calm and answered in the sixth minute. Robert Hill (Middlesbrough, England) found Emmanuel Aboagye (Ghana) in front of the net, and Aboagye finished off the pass to knot the contest at one.

After a scoreless first overtime, the Eagles nearly won the match in the second extra session, as Aboagye fired a shot in the 109th minute that ricocheted off the crossbar, but Barry cleared the ball to preserve the tie.

The Buccaneers kept the pressure on C-N's defense for most of the night, outshooting the Eagles 24-10 with a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Alley had a stellar effort for C-N in goal as he collected seven saves. Barry's Johnny Rodrigues (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) finished with one save.

The Eagles return to the pitch on Monday at home against King College. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at McCown Field.
