Zitt's Golden Goal Propels Carson-Newman Past King, 2-1

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — Sophomore midfielder Daniel Zitt (Morristown, Tenn.) scored a golden goal in the 98th minute to lift the Carson-Newman men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory in overtime over King College on Monday night at McCown Field.

Zitt gathered a cross from Ben Backstrom (Knoxville, Tenn.) and fired a shot into the back of net from 20 yards out to prevent the Eagles from playing to a second straight draw.

With the victory, C-N improves to 2-1-1 on the season. King falls to 0-4-1.

The Eagles had several opportunities in regulation to take the lead but were unable to take advantage. C-N outshot the Tornado 17-9, including a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal.

C-N fell behind early, as King's Zach Caracciolo (Clarksville, Tenn.) rebounded his own shot and booted the ball past Eagle goalkeeper Michael Alley (Kingsport, Tenn.) to give the Tornado a 1-nil lead in the 19th minute.

The Eagles answered late in the half to tie the match. Junior Robert Hill (Middlesbrough, England) lined a shot off King keeper Patrick Milfeld (Dallas, Texas), but sophomore Emmanuel Aboagye (Ghana) was there for the rebound to knot the match at one.

The teams then played through a scoreless second half before Zitt's match-winning goal in overtime.

Alley collected three saves in the win, while Milfeld tallied seven.

The Eagles return to the pitch on Saturday as they open South Atlantic Conference play at Brevard. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
