Eagles Cruise Past Catawba, 5-1

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — Reigning South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week Robert Hill (Middlesbrough, England) scored two goals to lead the Carson-Newman men's soccer team to a 5-1 victory over Catawba on Saturday night at McCown Field.

With the win, the Eagles stretch their winning streak to five matches and improve to 8-2-1 overall and 5-0 in the conference. Catawba falls to 6-5-1 and 0-3 in SAC play.

C-N held a 14-10 advantage in shots on the night, including a 7-5 edge in shots on goal.

The Eagles got off to a quick start, as Adam Thomas (Morristown, Tenn.) found the back of the net in the 6th minute off a pass from Ariel Pimentel.

Jared Prall (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) added to C-N's lead with a goal in the 39th minute. Ben Backstrom (Knoxville, Tenn.) was credited with the assist.

Hill then scored the first of his two goals in the 42nd minute as he finished off a pass from Daniel Zitt (Morristown, Tenn.) to give C-N a 3-nil lead at the break.

Hill found the back of the net again coming out of the locker room with a goal in the 57th minute to push C-N's lead to 4-nil. Taylor Jolley (Morristown, Tenn.) picked up the assist on the play.

Gustavo Jimenez (Alpharetta, Ga.) finished off the scoring for the Eagles in the 80th minute as he headed in a pass from Jolley to give C-N a 5-0 cushion.

Catawba's lone goal was scored by Domhnall Minogue (Greystones, Ireland) in the 81st minute.

C-N goalkeeper Jordan Moore (Hendersonville, Tenn.) recorded two saves in picking up the win, while Catawba's Luke McCarthy also had two saves.

The Eagles return to the pitch on Tuesday at home against Tusculum. Match time is set for 6 p.m. at McCown Field.
