Wingate Shuts Out Eagles, 6-0

WINGATE, N.C. — Wingate erupted for five goals in the second half en route to defeating the 18th-ranked Carson-Newman men's soccer team, 6-0, on Saturday night in South Atlantic Conference action in Wingate, N.C.

The loss snaps the Eagles' six-match winning streak and is their first in SAC play. C-N falls to 9-3-1 overall and 6-1 in the conference. Wingate improves to 10-2 on the season and 5-1 in SAC play.

Wingate held a 1-nil halftime lead after Fabricio Barancoski finished off a cross from Jamie McKenna in the 42nd minute.

The Bulldogs put the game away in the second half with goals by Luke Mulholland, Jack Vundum, Gui Lima, Keith Pittman and a second goal by Barancoski.

Wingate finished the night with 22 shots to C-N's 16, including a 12-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Eagle goalkeeper Jordan Moore (Hendersonville, Tenn.) allowed six goals and collected six saves in the loss, while Wingate's Joey Calandra tallied five saves in picking up the shutout.

C-N returns to the pitch on Wednesday at Belmont Abbey. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
