Eagles Shut Down 17th-Ranked Mars Hill, 2-0

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman men's soccer team knocked off 17th-ranked Mars Hill, 2-0, on Saturday night in South Atlantic Conference action at McCown Field.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 10-4-1 on the season and 7-1-0 in the conference. Mars Hill falls to 11-3-1 overall and 5-2-1 in SAC play.

Sophomore Daniel Zitt (Morristown, Tenn.) scored what proved to be the match winner in the 28th minute off an assist from Ben Backstrom (Knoxville, Tenn.).

The Eagles later put the match away in the 69th minute, as Robert Hill (Middlesbrough, England) hit Emmanuel Aboagye (Ghana) with a quick pass in the box, and Aboagye placed the ball in the back of the net to give the Eagles a 2-nil advantage.

C-N finished the contest with 21 shots, while Mars Hill managed to take eight shots on the night.

Eagle goalkeeper Jordan Moore (Hendersonville, Tenn.) collected two saves to earn the shutout, while Mars Hill's Zac Scott (Pittsboro, N.C.) had one save in the loss.

The Eagles return to action on Tuesday at home against Bryan College. Match time is set for 6 p.m. at McCown Field. Mars Hill is set to play at Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
