JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The second-seeded Carson-Newman men's soccer team scored two goals in a span of 21 seconds to rally for a 2-1 victory over seventh-seeded Catawba on Wednesday night at McCown Field in first round action of the 2010 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament.

With the win, the Eagles (12-4-1) advance to the semifinals and will face third-seeded Anderson on Friday at 6 p.m. at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, S.C.

The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half, but Catawba came out of the locker room and took a 1-nil lead in the 54th minute. Sophomore Carson Smith (Mooresville, N.C.) fired a shot from 20 yards out and placed it in the upper left corner to give the Indians the lead.

C-N answered, however, as junior Anthony Chiappetta (Morristown, Tenn.) knocked the ball loose in front of the net and sophomore Adam Thomas (Morristown, Tenn.) scored the equalizer in the 55th minute.

Just 21 seconds later, the Eagles tallied the match winner with a goal from junior forward Robert Hill (Middlesbrough, England).

C-N finished the match with a 13-7 advantage in shots, including a 6-3 edge in shots on goal.

Eagles goalkeeper Jordan Moore (Hendersonville, Tenn.) collected two saves in earning the win, while Catawba's Luke McCarthy (Naples, Fla.) had four saves.

C-N will match up with an Anderson squad on Friday that it defeated 2-0 on Sept. 25.
