JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The 18th-ranked Carson-Newman men's soccer team jumped out to a 3-0 first-half lead en route to a convincing 4-1 victory over Tusculum on Tuesday night in South Atlantic Conference action at McCown Field.

With the win, the Eagles extend their winning streak to six matches and improve to 9-2-1 overall and 6-0 in the conference. Tusculum falls to 2-7-3 on the season and 1-4-0 in SAC play.

C-N got off to a strong start in front of a season-high crowd of 835. Eagle sophomore Emmanuel Aboagye (Ghana) tallied two goals in the first nine minutes to give the Eagles a 2-nil lead. Aboagye collected a pass from Daniel Zitt (Morristown, Tenn.) and made a move past Tusculum goalkeeper Andy Goellner (Denver, Colo.) in the third minute for the first goal of the night.

Less than six minutes later, Aboagye finished off a pass from Robert Hill (Middlesbrough, England) to give C-N a two-goal lead.

The Eagles took advantage of a penalty kick by Matthew Finlay (Liverpool, England) in the 21st minute to take a 3-nil lead into the locker room.

C-N put the game away coming out of halftime, as Hill headed in a corner kick from Ben Backstrom (Knoxville, Tenn.) to give the Eagles a 4-0 cushion.

Tusculum's lone goal came off the foot of Janik Bold (Otterberg, Germany), who placed a cross from Javier Portillo (Guatemala City, Guatemala) in the back of the net in the 60th minute.

The Eagles controlled possession for most of the night and held a 22-8 advantage in shots, including a 12-4 edge in shots on goal.

C-N goalkeeper Jordan Moore (Hendersonville, Tenn.) tallied two saves in picking up the win, while Goellner collected eight saves for Tusculum.

C-N returns to action on Saturday in a SAC matchup at Wingate. Match time is set for 7 p.m. in Wingate, N.C.
