Eagles Rally for 2-1 Victory at Lincoln Memorial

HARROGATE, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman men's soccer team rallied for a 2-1 victory over Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference play at LMU Soccer Field.

After trailing 1-nil at the half, the Eagles scored a goal early in the second half, and Anthony Chiappetta (Morristown, Tenn.) bent in a shot from 25 yards out near the end line in the 90th minute to send the Eagles home with a win.

The Eagles improve to 5-2-1 overall and remain perfect in the conference at 3-0. The Railsplitters fall to 5-2 on the season and 2-1 in SAC play.

Lincoln Memorial's Chris Nash (Cuffley, England) tallied a goal in the 40th minute to give the Railsplitters the lead heading into the locker room, but C-N fought back in the final period.

Sophomore Luke Weemes (London, England) provided the equalizer in the 56th minute as he finished off a cross in front of the goal from Chiappetta.

The teams then remained scoreless until the final minute when Chiappetta scored the match-winner.

Lincoln Memorial held a 24-11 advantage in shots, including an 11-5 edge in shots on goal.

C-N goalkeeper Jordan Moore (Hendersonville, Tenn.) had another stellar effort in goal for the Eagles as he allowed one goal and recorded nine saves in picking up the win.

The Eagles return to the pitch on Saturday at Lenoir-Rhyne. Match time is set for 7:30 p.m. in Hickory, N.C.
