Carson-Newman Men's Soccer Knocks Off Anderson, 2-0

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman men's soccer team scored a pair of second half goals and held off Anderson for a 2-0 victory on Saturday night in South Atlantic Conference play at McCown Field.

With the win, the Eagles are now 4-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while Anderson drops to 4-4-1 on the season and 0-2-1 in SAC play.

C-N overcame a steady attack from the Trojans, as Anderson held a 17-10 edge in shots, including a 12-7 advantage in shots on goal.

Eagle goalkeeper Jordan Moore (Hendersonville, Tenn.) had a stellar night in picking up the shutout. Moore tallied a career-high 12 saves.

After a scoreless first half, the Eagles broke the tie in the 71st minute with a goal from Robert Hill (Middlesbrough, England). Ben Backstrom (Knoxville, Tenn.) provided the assist.

C-N then held off Trojans before putting the game away with an empty net goal by Daniel Zitt (Morristown, Tenn.). Backstrom recorded his second assist of the night on the play.

Anderson keeper Lukas Hesse (Berlin, Germany) collected five saves in the loss.

The Eagles return to the pitch on Wednesday at Lincoln Memorial. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
