Any girl playing college volleyball has at some point in their volleyball career heard their coach say to hit someone in the face and knock them out. Most teams use that as motivation, not in a literal sense. To start off this week, however, our very own Maddie Borch took this phrase to a whole new level. When warming up for the Tusculum game last week, coach sent Maddie off with the instructions to nail someone in the face. Little did he know, she would do it to one of our own. She went out into warm ups with all guns blazin', and it wasn't five minutes before she nailed one of my fellow freshies Maddie Zyburt in the head and concussed her. Needless to say there is never a dull moment on our team and this set the pace for an eventful week. After sweeping the Pioneers in 3, we were ready to nurse Maddie back to health from her blast from Kev and prepare for our weekend on the road in South Carolina.
The following days we spent in the gym making sure we stayed loose and focused for our matches that were coming soon. On Friday morning we loaded up and headed out to USC Aiken where we played Augusta and Aiken. We opened up with Augusta and played what we all agreed to be one of the best games we have ever played together as a team, and took them in three with no problem. Next, we played USC Aiken. We played a tough match and played hard but unfortunately fell a little short to the Pacers. We were all disappointed at that region loss, so we decided that we would bounce back the next day and play even harder and show everyone what a great team we are. We loaded back up Saturday morning and headed to Lander. After we all got hype to the Lion King on the bus, we were ready to go. We came out and left no doubt in anyones mind that was watching how good of a team we are, taking Lander in three. After the long weekend, we headed home to Jeff City. But, not before coach surprised us with gourmet cupcakes!!!! We shoveled frosting and cake into our mouths and then passed out in a sugar coma.
