Six athletes have punched their NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships tickets.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Six athletes have punched their NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships tickets.
After an indoor season that featured three All-Americans and a national champion, the Carson-Newman Track and Field team sends double the athletes to the outdoor championships.
The championships will take place at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colo., from May 22 to 24.
On day one, the action begins for Eagle athletes at 4:30 p.m. as the lone female athlete heading to Pueblo, Syndey McCarty, takes flight in the women's long jump. McCarty enters as an underdog with the 12th-best seed at the NCAA Championships with a seed of 6.14m. The top seed in the event is Denise Hernandez of Lewis with a seed mark of 6.46m.
Later that day at 6:55 p.m., the Men's 4x100 meter relay team takes its preliminary heat as one of 16 qualified teams. The relay team features Dawson Jones, Favour Ekpekpe, Amine Kasmi, and Shemar Patten.
The Eagles are tied for the third-best seed at the meet with Grand Valley State with a time of 39.78. The top seed in the event belongs to the three-time defending team national champion, Pittsburg State, which comes to Pueblo with a seed mark of 39.49.
On May 23, at 7 p.m., the freshman thrower Oluwatimi Williams participates in the men's discus throw with a seed mark of 54.69m. Williams also enters as an underdog as the mark is the 15th-best seed at the championships. The top seed belongs to Owen Fraser of Missouri S&T as the only athlete this season to pass 60m.
Finally, at 7:45 p.m., Favour Ekpekpe participates in the 200m preliminaries in the lone individual track event. Ekpekpe is around the middle of the pack for qualified runners in the event, with the favorite and top-seed coming from Pittsburg State's Dapriest Hogans. However, all 22 runners have seed times within a second of each other.
Selections for the 2025 DII men's and women's outdoor track and field championships were revealed on Tuesday, May 13, via a press release on NCAA.com. Qualifying marks from Thursday, Feb. 20, to Sunday, May 11, were considered.
