DAHLONEGA, Ga. — Senior Jeff Lockwood (Knoxville, Tenn.) went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and pitched a perfect ninth inning to lead the Carson-Newman baseball team to a 6-3 victory over No. 17 North Georgia on Wednesday afternoon at Bob Stein Stadium.

Lockwood struck out one batter in the ninth to pick up his second save of the season. He also extended his hitting steak to 12 games.

With the win, C-N improves to 14-8 on the season. North Georgia falls to 16-8 overall.

The Eagles pounded out 15 hits on the day, including three each from senior Mills Rogers (Simpsonville, S.C.) and junior Wesley Dozier (Cornelius, N.C.). Rogers produced a double and a solo home run. Senior first baseman Derek Long (Jefferson City, Tenn.) and sophomore Aaron Vargas (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) added two hits apiece in the win.

C-N's pitching staff held the Saints to seven hits a day after giving up a season-high 19 base knocks. Daniel Petitti delivered a pair of solo home runs to lead North Georgia, while Andre Airich contributed two hits.

Senior pitcher Wes McIntyre (Chattanooga, Tenn.) gave the Eagles 3 2/3 solid innings of relief work to pick up the win. McIntyre (2-1) allowed just one run and one hit and struck out five batters.

North Georgia reliever Nick White (2-1) was tagged with the loss after surrendering the go-ahead run in 2/3 of an inning on the mound.

The Saints grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, as Petitti delivered a solo blast to left field, but C-N tied the game at one in the fourth on an RBI double by Rogers.

The Eagles took the lead for good in the seventh with a three-run outburst, highlighted by Lockwood's two-run home run to left field.

C-N returns to the diamond at home on Thursday against Anderson. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.
