Bridgewater Fires Carson-Newman Past Lenoir-Rhyne, 11-1

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — Junior pitcher Austin Bridgewater (Morristown, Tenn.) scattered five hits in nine innings of work as he led Carson-Newman to an 11-1 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne on Friday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.

With the win, C-N improves to 16-8 overall and 7-3 in the conference. Lenoir-Rhyne falls to 12-12 on the season and 6-4 in SAC play.

The Eagles provided Bridgewater with plenty of run support as they collected 10 hits on the day. Senior shortstop Mills Rogers (Simpsonville, S.C.) went 4-for-5 with a triple and three runs scored to lead the way. Senior Derek Long (Jefferson City, Tenn.) tallied two hits and had two RBIs, while Corey Lamson (Gray, Tenn.) delivered a three-run home run and Aaron Vargas (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) added a two-run double in the win.

Right fielder Evan Taylor (Charlotte, N.C.) produced two hits, including a double, to lead the Bears.

C-N took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, as Rogers tripled and later scored on a groundout by Jeff Lockwood (Knoxville, Tenn.)

The Eagles were unable to do any more damage off Lenoir-Rhyne starting pitcher Chris Henderson (Lincolnton, N.C.) until the fourth inning when they put the game out of reach with a six-run outburst. Lamson highlighted the inning by delivering a three-run blast off Henderson.

Henderson (3-3) was tagged with the loss after allowing eight earned runs and eight hits and striking out four batters in 5 1/3 innings of work.

C-N and the Bears will conclude the three-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at noon at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.
