MIAMI – Former Carson-Newman standout and Florida Marlin
Steve Cishek (Falsmouth, Mass.) pitched two
perfect innings in his major league debut for the Florida Marlins
on Sunday afternoon.
Cishek retired all six batters he faced in the Marlins 7-1 loss at home to the Milwaukee Brewers. He threw 16-of-18 pitches for strikes to retire the Brewers in order in the sixth and seventh innings, recording three ground balls, a popup, and two fly outs.
"It was definitely a dream come true, that's for sure," Cishek said. "I just wanted to go right at them, fill up the strike zone as much as possible and whatever happens, happens. It turned out it worked pretty well."
Last week, Cishek became the first Eagle since Clyde Wright to reach the major leagues when he was called up by the Marlins.
The Falmouth, Mass. product was drafted out of Carson-Newman in the fifth round by the Marlins in the 2007 draft.
