Dozier leads Eagles past Maryville in Eagles' final home game, 7-4
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman senior Wesley Dozier (Cornelious, N.C.) had two doubles and a home run in his first three at-bats as C-N built an early 6-1 lead and held on for a 7-4 win over visiting Maryville College on Wednesday afternoon at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 18-25 on the year, while Maryville falls to 22-10.

Dozier finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a walk to lead the Eagles.

Maryville jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but C-N answered with three-runs in the bottom half of the inning to seize control.

Dozier had a one-out double to score Evan Patterson (Knoxville, Tenn.), who led off with a single, in the frame as the Eagles tied the game at 1-1. He would later score on a wild pitch to give the Eagles the lead.

Eagles' starter Evan Faithful (Hingham, Mass.) pitched five innings, allowing five hits and two runs to pick up the win. He struck out three.

Dozier helped blow the game open with his fourth home run of the season in the fourth. The senior belted a towering two-run shot over the high fence in left center to push the Eagles' lead out to 6-1.

Maryville would battle back with single runs in three straight innings beginning in the sixth, but senior Mike Mullen (Bradenton, Fla.) came on to shut out the Scots in the ninth to pick up his second save of the year.

Catcher Lance Reed (Elizabethton, Tenn.) went 2-for-4 for the Eagles with an RBI.

Carson-Newman returns to action on Friday evening against Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tenn. First pitch is at 7 p.m. on the LMU campus.
