Eagles fall at Pfeiffer, 6-1

MISENHEIMER, N.C. — The Carson-Newman baseball team was unable to overcome six errors, as it dropped a 6-1 decision at Pfeiffer on Wednesday afternoon.

With the loss, the Eagles fall to 3-6 on the season. Pfeiffer improves to 5-4 overall.

C-N collected nine hits on the day, including two each from Jonathan Dalton (Rutledge, Tenn.) and Troy Zawadzki (Shrewsbury, Mass.).

The Falcons finished the day with 11 hits. Jacob Yates, Aarin Sharpe and Hunter Boehme tallied two hits apiece to lead the way.

Pfeiffer starting hurler Ethan Marsh (3-1) earned the win after giving up one run and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings of work. Marsh also had six strikeouts.

C-N starter Evan Faithful (Hingham, Mass.) was tagged with the loss. Faithful (1-1) surrendered two runs (one earned) and six hits in 4 1/3 innings on the mound.

Pfeiffer took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Jon Gray RBI single.

C-N bounced back to tie the game in the fifth. After Wesley Dozier singled, Jonathan Dalton ripped a doubled to left field, driving in Dozier to tie the game at 1-1.

However, the Falcons answered with a run in the home half of the inning and took advantage of four C-N errors in the sixth to score two runs to put the game away.

The Eagles return to the diamond on Friday in their South Atlantic Conference opener at Newberry. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
