Eagles fall to No. 5 Mount Olive, 15-3

GREENWOOD, S.C. — Fifth-ranked Mount Olive collected 13 hits, including three home runs, en route to a 15-3 victory over the Carson-Newman Eagles on Saturday afternoon in Greenwood, S.C.

With the loss, the Eagles fall to 3-5 on the season. Mount Olive improves to 4-1 overall.

Mount Olive's Michael Knox delivered a three-run home run in the top of the third inning to break a scoreless tie and spark a five-run inning that gave the Trojans the lead for good.

The Eagles tallied seven hits on the day, including a two-run home run by Wesley Dozier (Cornelius, N.C.).

Knox finished with two home runs for Mount Olive, while Antonio Callaway produced three hits. Dan Hayduk added two hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs in the win.

C-N starting hurler Austin Bridgewater (Morristown, Tenn.) was tagged with the loss. Bridgewater (0-2) surrendered five earned runs and five hits in 4 2/3 innings of work. He also had four walks and three stikeouts.

Mount Olive starter Carter Capps (1-0) earned the win, giving up two earned runs and five hits and striking out six in six innings on the mound.

The Eagles return to action on Sunday at Lander. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. in Greenwood, S.C.
