Eagle Baseball Signs Four in Fall Signing Period

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Eagles have added four signees in the fall signing period, head coach Tom Griffin announced Monday.

Infielders Bo Asmus (Jefferson City, Tenn.) and Cody Fox (Seymour, Tenn.), outfielder Joe Tipton (Jefferson City, Tenn.), and pitcher Jordan Lindsey (Lakewood, Fla.) have all signed to play for the Eagles in 2012.

Asmus and Fox are a pair east Tennessee shortstops who will fill the Eagle middle infield in the future.

"All of the local guys we've have known about for quite some time," Griffin said. " (Asmus and Fox) are two of the better middle infielders in east Tennessee. They can play a number of positions, and are very athletic with strong arms. Bo (Asmus) can do a lot of things offensively, while Cody (Fox) can really hit with power to all fields and runs extremely well."

Tipton, a high school teammate of Asmus, is a standout at Jefferson County High School.

"Joe (Tipton) is a left-handed hitter with a lot of potential offensively," Griffin added of the only outfield signee in the class. "He's athletic and has a plus arm, and could really meet a need for us there."

Lindsey is the only pitcher in the class. He's currently at Shorecrest Prepatory High School, where current Eagle Robby Thigpen (St. Petersburg, Fla.) played prep ball.

"Jordan is a kid that can step into our rotation immediately," Griffin said. "He's got good command of his fastball, and has a great slider. He's a solid right-hander with a big upside."

The Eagles finished 31-18 last season. They open their 2011 season on Feb. 4 at August State (Ga.).
