VIDEO: Kensho Yoshikoshi Interview
ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the first time in his career, Kensho Yoshikoshi has been tabbed the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
"I'm so glad and I'm proud of myself," Yoshikoshi said. "I think it's a team effort, so I'm very glad."
The senior opened up the scoring in Saturday's 2-2 senior night draw with No. 19 Wingate on a header in the 13th minute.
Thaylan Silva (São Paulo, Brazil) lined up for a free kick that bounced off the head of Tony Saldana (Dalton, Ga.). The deflection landed just ahead of Yoshikoshi, allowing him to use his forehead to send the ball into the back right of the goal.

The Tokyo, Japan-native has found the back of the net three times this season, moving his career total to five goals. Each of his career goals has come via a header.
"Will Sainsbury-Logan and Thaylan Silva are very good kickers so I just jumped and header," Yoshikoshi said. "I had a confidence to get the header so I was really glad to go out and get something like that."
The defender's laurel marks the fifth Player of the Week accolade that Carson-Newman has seen this season, three of those being defensive award-winners.
The Eagles have just one match left in the regular season as they make a trip to Greeneville, Tenn. on Wednesday night, looking to take the SAC Regular Season title with a win over Tusculum. The match from Pioneer Field is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. Tusculum will provide a live stream of the match along with live stats while fans can also following along with @CNathletics on Twitter.
