GREENVILLE, S.C. – Even with matching its second-most shots in a single match this season, Carson-Newman faced its first tie of the season in a 1-1 stalemate with Anderson on Saturday night at the Legacy Early College Soccer Field.
"Disappointed with the result as, again, we have created enough chances to win the game," Carson-Newman coach Stephen Lyons said. "Then on the defensive side, another simple mistake has been punished. We have to be more ruthless on both sides of the ball and make sure we are both more clinical and consistently making good decisions."
Carson-Newman (5-1-1, 2-0-1 South Atlantic Conference) sent 27 shots for a second-consecutive match, landing 12 on frame throughout the match. The Eagles sent out three-times the shots Anderson (3-3-1, 0-2-1 SAC) was able to muster in the match, holding the Trojans without an attempt through both overtime periods.
This is the second-straight meeting between the two sides that has resulted in a 1-1 draw, last year's coming in Jefferson City. Carson-Newman still remains without a loss in league action.
Before today, C-N had never seen a draw when playing at Anderson. Now, the Eagles are 4-1-1 when playing at Anderson and still lead the overall series 11-4-2.
In the 12th minute, Tobias Solem Karlsen (Kongsvinger, Norway) maneuvered a ball away from multiple Trojan defenders before crossing over to Harrison Collins (Cardiff, Wales). A cross back off of the side of his foot gave Solem Karlsen the chance to break into a one-on-one with Anderson's Gal Elyashiv. The forward sent a sliding strike past Elyashiv to put the Eagles up 1-0.
The goal pushed Solem Karlsen to six goals on the season and 28 in his career. He moves into a three-way tie for seventh alongside Glenn Bednarczyk and Sindre Welo who played from 1999-00 and 2012-15, respectively.
As for Collins, he now holds four assists in his debut season with the Eagles, tying the top spot in the group on the year with Thaylan Silva (São Paulo, Brazil).

Anderson used a goal in the 60th minute to tie the match. Harry Ward picked up a pass from Colin Burris and sent a shot over a sliding save attempt from C-N's goalkeeper Bram Kaarsgaren (Den Bosch, The Netherlands).
From there, the match remained deadlock through the rest of regulation, forcing the two sides to face overtime for the second-straight season. The Eagles tallied a combined total of four shots through both overtime periods while holding Anderson to none.
A total of 10 Eagles attempted shots in the match, but Collins and Sofian Maghouz (London, England) led with five shots each. Maghouz led everyone on the pitch in shots on goal with three.
Shalev Keter took the most opportunities for the Trojans, sending a trio of shots.
Kaarsgaren made just one save throughout the entire match, a count he has recorded three times on the year with two of those times coming in back-to-back games.
The Eagles pressured Elyashiv into 11 saves on the night. He needed six in the second half of regulation, alone.
Carson-Newman heads back home for a two-match home tilt, starting with Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. from McCown Field.
