Indians up next for the Eagles as the home-slate continues

JEFFERSON, CITY, Tenn.—The Carson-Newman men's tennis team will try to carry momentum on from its first win of the season over Southern Wesleyan last Saturday (Feb. 27) and look to take down Catawba Thursday afternoon when the Indians come to Mossy Creek for a 2:00 p.m. contest at the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex.

In their latest action, Carson-Newman (1-3, 0-1) defeated the Warriors convincingly, 7-2, to pick up its first win of the season. Their three prior losses came from Tennessee Wesleyan (2/18), the University of the Cumberlands (2/26) and South Atlantic Conference foe Newberry (2/21).

The Eagles will be looking for back-to-back for the first time since winning a pair of matches on the road against North Greenville and Catawba a season ago.

The Indians bring back a ton of experience from year's past as the roster sports four seniors, three juniors, two sophomores and only one freshman.

Coached by Jeff Childress, Catawba was slated eighth by SAC officials prior to the start of the 2016 season.

The Eagles have been paced by Jesus Barcete (Spain) and Stefano Daza (Venezuela) in singles as the two have managed a 3-1 record thus far into the season.

Finding no success in the first three matches of the season, coach Jean Love decided to mix up her doubles lineup during C-N's win over Southern Wesleyan and the move resulted in the Eagles taking two of the three to begin the contest. The match was the first time Carson-Newman held the advantage in doubles on the season.

A complete recap of the Eagles' contest against Ctaawba can be found on cneagles.com following the conclusion of action at the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex Tuesday afternoon.
